Feed the Homeless Honolulu

Our church has an outreach program where they spend one Saturday per month serving food to the homeless at a shelter in downtown Honolulu. This past Saturday was our Sunday school class's turn. I personally was so excited to do this. I had already read about this outreach program on the church website even before we moved to Hawaii. I thought it would be an awesome opportunity. The only disappointment was that AJ was not allowed to participate because he wasn't old enough. Something to do with the shelter's insurance coverage. Anyway, John and I met another couple at our church around 9:00am to prepare food and we headed to the shelter about 10:30. We were able to serve lunch to the homeless from 12:00 to 12:45. Some of the men coming through the line didn't even want to make eye contact, but most of them seemed thankful and we tried our best to make them smile. It really was a humbling experience and I would recommend it to all. Not only can you help those in need, but it is also a reminder to be thankful for what we have and how God has provided for our family.
